Coprophagia and Urodipsia in Individuals with developmental disability, autism and mental illness


Mentally sick people are many in the world. They suffer from any illness starting from Alzheimer to Parkinson and etc. They illness is connected with the brain damage no matter if it is inherited or acquired during the lifetime. Mostly the damages in the brain may be divided into two groups: Physiological and Anatomical. First one of them is connected with more biochemical problems unlike the anatomical where the problems are more structural rather than physiological. However in most cases the combination of both is present but one of the problems always prevails.
The physiological problems are more severe than the structural since they tend to become even worse after time. They are dynamical processes that mess up with the function of the brain. That is why in many cases the problems in brain result are two things: mental problems and/or muscle problems (hyperkinesias, hyperkinesias and etc.)
The muscle problems may be treated quite well with medicaments that suppress muscle contractions unlike the mental problems that are hard to handle. The mental problems are because of misregulation of the neuronal peptides- serotonin, melatonin, acetylcholine, adrenaline and etc. This misregulation is strictly connected with the mental problems of the people.
One of the severe mental problems is the coprophagia and urodipsia. The first term means literally eating feces no matter it is your own or not. The urodipsia is eating/drinking your urine and/or your penis/vagina. These problems indicate severe mental problem with poor recognition of what is wrong or right. These problems also show that the mental development of the child is poor and the ability to recognize things is damaged.
These things show that the child ability to learn is also impaired. The cortex is not able to suppress the lower structures such as thalamus, mesencephalus, diencephalus and pons. Without this suppression the lower structures will do it primary objectives which include only and I stress ONLY- Eating and Drinking. These lower structures without the connection from the cortex are not able to recognize whether the food is actually a food or not. From that actually comes the problem. Strictness is a must during the child’s training period.
During the time of teaching the child should be able to learn not to do that. This may be hard with the progress of the disease but you should never lose hope since this is the only thing that you can do after you have consulted a doctor.
